Lyrics by Blank Frank

Believe me, we’re well aware it was just what they said they’d do.
It’s that then we didn’t want to believe that part could be true.
You know politicians say so much that’s mainly empty words.
But most of their words felt good and we hated the same folks too.

The models and algorithms had served us well for so long.
Our TED talk and Davos thought leaders were singing the same song,
In agreement about what things meant and where we were going.
There was no reason to think that their projections could be wrong.

BREAK

It wasn’t reasonable then to say he’d fail, I suppose,
After seeming to succeed at everything else, heaven knows.
Of course, since the truth became clearer, it comes as no surprise.
Now he’s up there pulling shit out his ass and looking down his nose
At us wretched few left here; the more things change, far as that goes.

Gonna back myself right out of here honey
And get myself back home.
Gonna back myself right out of here girl;
I don’t care that you can’t be alone.
I’ll get myself, get myself back home.
I’ll get myself, get myself back home.
If you want some kind of explanation,
Why don’t you ask your phone?

Tried to tell you many times before baby
But something was in the way.
Tried to warn you many times before girl;
Now there’s nothing that you could say.
I’ll get myself, get myself back home.
I’ll get myself, get myself back home.
If you truly need someone to talk to,
You should look to your phone,
While you’re driving.

BREAK

Gonna back myself right out of here honey
And get myself back home.
Gonna back myself right out of here girl;
I don’t care if you can’t be alone.
I’ll get myself, get myself back home.
I’ll get myself, get myself back home.
When you start searching for a new lover,
I suggest you try your phone.
Just put it on vibrate.

I thought I’d taken all I could take,
That I’d never catch another break.
So maybe I’ve made a few mistakes;
None that deserved this, for Christ’s sake!
Then that day in the police line-up – mistaken identity!
Though I was down on my luck, you see my luck wasn’t down on me!
Though I was down on my luck, you see my luck wasn’t down on me!

Next things were looking so very bad.
I’d lost every friend I thought I had.
Forsaken even by mom and dad;
Those Judases still make me so mad.
Anyway that day in the courtroom a mistrial set me free!
Again I was down on my luck, but my luck wasn’t down on me!
Again I was down on my luck, but my luck wasn’t down on me!

BREAK

Then everything went from bad to worst.
The first was last and the last were first.
I began to see my life as cursed,
And thought this could be my final verse.
When I learned in my death row cell that the President pardoned me!
Well I was down on my luck, thank God my luck wasn’t down on me!
Well I was down on my luck, thank God my luck wasn’t down on me!
Now I’m not down on my luck, and my luck isn’t down on me!

You can ask anybody that you meet,
From the big box Petco at the edge of town
To the dog boutique down on Main Street
And everywhere in between, they’ll all know that . . .

Little Pomeranians are
The cutest of the cute.
Newfies are devoted and sweet
And good companions to boot.
Setters are active extroverts,
Black and white or red.
And black labs are best in bed.

Speedy greyhounds love to chase
Anything you toss.
Golden Retrievers are easy to train;
They know that you’re the boss.
Courageous German Shepherds go
Where others fear to tread.
And black labs are best in bed.

Boxers are alert and bright;
There is no fooling them.
Dalmatians will not push the limits;
You’ll never need a pen.
The appetite of Wolfhounds means
They’ll eat all that they’re fed.
And black labs are best in bed.

Doberman Pinschers are brave and loyal;
They’re with you till the end.
Beagles are companionable;
You’ll have no better friend.
Schnauzers are obedient;
They’ll do what you have said.
And black labs are best in bed.

Border Collies are so smart;
They’ve even mastered math.
Pugs have a killer sense of humor;
They’ll always make you laugh.
Pekingese are the nicest dressed,
For that is what they’re bred.
And black labs are best in bed.

Mastiffs are the most polite;
They won’t talk back to you.
Sociable foxhounds are always up
For a drink or two.
The bulldog is tenacious and brave;
He’ll fight until he’s dead.
And black labs are best in bed.

The Cocker Spaniel’s good with money;
He never needs a loan.
Huskies are comfortable in a crowd
And also all alone.
The bloodhound’s never discontent
With his daily bread.
And black labs are best in bed.

Sit at the feet of St. Bernards;
They are the most profound.
And learn the easy going ways
Of the Basset Hound.
So choose to stay on your old path
Or follow theirs instead.
And black labs are best in bed.

You know you know just what you like,
And you can see he’s not your type.

Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance

Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance

You tell yourself his face’s too rough,
And that he isn’t big enough.
His clothes aren’t new, their brands ain’t right;
His hair – too dark; his eyes – too light.

Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance

Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance

I’m not asking you to change,
Well maybe just a little bit.
You’d thank me for it.

I know you know just what you like,
And you can see I’m not your type.

Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance

Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance
Give this man half a chance

Give this man
Give this man
Give this man
Half a chance

Give this man
Give this man
Give this man
Half a chance
